Queens Park, Chesterfield
The scheme includes a grass mound, 'sitting stones' and more conventional benches with oak slats to create a dynamic, diverse and inclusive space. The seating is intended for general use but was specifically envisaged as an area for story telling and other activities for primary school children.
The elements are made from concrete which uses 70 percent recycled material including recycled glass aggregate which gives a decorative and exciting finish. This is the first commercial use of a unique concrete developed by Sheffield University Department of Structural Engineering.
